American Civil War

The American Civil War began on April 12th, 1861. The fighting as a result of differences in opinion about slavery, economic and political issues between the northern states and the southern states. The northern states formed the Federal Government. The southern states formed the Confederate States of America.

The Confederate forces attacked a Federal fort at the Battle of Fort Sumner. The Federal Government was led by President Abraham Lincoln. The Confederate States of America were led by President Jefferson Davis.
