World War I

World War I, also known as The Great War, was triggered by the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand, the Inspector of the Austro-Hungarian Army, June 28th, 1914. Germany then declared war on Russia on August 1st, 1914. An end to the war was agreed on November 11th, 1918; but it wasn't until June 28th, 1919 that Germany signed the Treaty of Versailles - a peace settlement.
