In many under-developed countries people collect their fresh water from nearby streams, rivers or lakes. Higher up this water may be clean, but as it flows down and through many different agricultural and populated areas, it can become contaminated, polluted, and unfit to drink. In many of these countries aid agencies are helping people to get fresh clean water by sinking wells or bores.
