Classifying Plants

Scientists classify plants into two main groups: Non-vascular plants, and Vascular Plants.

Plants can also be grouped in other ways. For example, whether they keep their leaves in winter - Evergreen, or whether they lose them in winter - deciduous. Whether they grow from seed and die in one year - annual, two years biennial, or after several years perennial.

Some plants climb up other plants or objects - Climbing Plants. Some plants perch on other plants but do not harm them - Perching Plants or Epiphytes. Some live on other plants and do them harm - Parasites. Some plants are Carnivorous.
