Bony Fish

Bony fish make up about 95% of all fish species. Unlike sharks and rays, bony fish have a skeleton made of bone and an air-filled sac, called a swim bladder. The swim bladder controls the buoyancy of a fish. Bony fish live in freshwater and saltwater (marine) environments.

The largest bony fish is the Ocean Sunfish. It can measure more than three metres in length and weigh up to 2,300 kilograms.
