Hippopotamus

Hippopotamuses, also called hippos, are found in Africa. They live in open areas where there is enough water to drink and plants to eat.

There are 2 species of hippo:
  • Common hippo
  • Pygmy hippo

The ancient Greeks called hippos 'river horses'. The Greek word for horse is hippo.
