Giraffes

Giraffes are the tallest animal in the world. An adult male can be up to 5.5m and weigh as much as 1,300 kilograms. Male giraffes are called bulls. Females are called cows. Young giraffes are called calves.

Giraffes live in the tropical regions of Africa. There are 6 main subspecies of giraffe.
  • Reticulated Giraffe - northeastern Kenya, Ethiopia, and Somalia
  • Nubian giraffe - eastern Sudan, northeast Congo.
  • Rothschild giraffe - Uganda, and north-central Kenya.
  • Masai giraffe - central and southern Kenya and Tanzania.
  • Angolan giraffe - Angola and Zambia.
  • Southern giraffe - South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique.
