Endangered Species

An endangered species is any plant or animal whose ability to survive and reproduce has been threatened by humans. Many countries have laws offering special protection to these species and their habitats.

In 1963 members of IUCN (The World Conservation Union), put together CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) - an international agreement between Governments. Its aim is to ensure that international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival.
