Animals are living organisms. They vary greatly in shape, size and where they live. The smallest animal in the world is the Amoeba, which can only been seen looking through a microscope. The largest animal in the world is the Blue Whale. Animals are found in many types of environment ranging from hot dry deserts to the frozen vastness of Antarctica.

Animals that have a backbone are called vertebrates, and these include fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. Animals that do not have a backbone are called invertebrates, and these include insects and spiders.
