Monkeys, Apes and relatives

This group includes chimpanzees, gorillas, baboons, spider monkeys, lemurs and humans. Members of this group are also called primates. Most primates are found in Central and South America, Africa, and southern Asia.

Primates are divided into three groups.

Prosimians - includes lemurs and tarsiers. These are the most primitive of all the primates.
New World primates - includes capuchin, howler, and squirrel monkeys. They live in the Americas.
Old World primates - includes baboons, orangutans and gorillas. They are found in Africa and southern and central Asia.
