People in Ethiopia

The population of 70 million people is concentrated in the northern and southern highlands. The lowlands in the south-east, south, and west are generally far more sparsely inhabited. The pictures below were taken in the Jimma region (about six hours travel south west of Addis Ababa). The people and their language are Oromo, who are mostly muslim.

The health of many rural communities depends on access to clean drinking water, and aid agencies send in engineers to help tap new springs and dig new wells.
