Zoos and Wildlife Parks

Responsible zoos have several major objectives. These include:
  • Animal Care and Welfare: They take care of their animals. They provide proper health care, balanced diets, and enclosures that provide stimulating surroundings and allow their animals to display their natural behaviour.
  • Environmental Education: They encourage visitors to learn more about the animals on display; to understand and value their importance; and to care about the environment.
  • Conservation: They have breeding programmes to help with the conservation of threatened or endangered species; and inspire their visitors to take positive action to protect wildlife and the environment.

The World Association of Zoos and Aquariums is the "umbrella" organisation for the world zoo and aquarium community. Its members include leading zoos and aquariums, and regional and national Associations of Zoos and Aquariums, as well as some affiliate organisations, such as zoo veterinarians or zoo educators, from all around the world. Together they are 'United for Conservation'.
