This group includes fur seals, elephant seals, sea lions, walruses and leopard seals. They are commonly called Pinnipeds, which means "Fin Foot" in Latin. Pinnipeds are mammals that live mostly in the water, but spend some time on land or ice. All pinnipeds are carnivores, eating fish, shellfish, and other marine animals.
There are three groups of pinnipeds:
- Walruses
- Eared seals - fur seals and sea lions
- True seals or earless seals - monk seals and elephant seals
